auspicious / suspicious

i have been accused of not liking blue.
Totally untrue.

i am the first to say we must be friends with all colors.
Though, now that i think of it there is a certain hue of blue that rakes on me like nails on a blackboard. It is that awning, or soda-can blue. Really, not to be confused w/ the potent cobalt that comes out of a tube, there is something different about that...

But, in design work i created a beautifully complete color story for an underwater installation w/out touching blue.

i just thought this was interesting.

I sat on the subway heading to who knows. To my right sat a young business associate in a stiff navy-blue pant suit. She looked practically normal. That is, until she pulled a legal sized zip-lock bag out of her brief case. It was stuffed w/ half used lip sticks. i’m not good at the guess-how-many game, but i’m saying it was far too many for a lifetime use of one person.  Rhythmically + s
taccato-like, she grabbed out a tube, pulled off the cover, screws it up to see the color, ‘tsks’ disgustedly, recaped it + clutches for the next stick. She does this over + over + over + over again, till she has seen + disregarded each color. She’s having an audible imaginary talking-to w/ a peer.

You can’t make this stuff up.

  2. i was just at a modern art museum; there was an exhibit in which the artist had 'invented' his own blue, and had colored squares with it. Boy, that's art! And your associate has issues...wonder what her story is?

  4. Oh the story of our lives - You can not make this stuff up.\ - Nor need to.
I remember sitting in a ritzy restaurant with a high faluentin development gal when she whipped out her lipstick and hand mirror and proceeded to to apply the stick the way a 5 year old girl would: up and down like Like a roller coaster then across the bottom like Ronald Mc Donald. She was completely satisfied.

  5. Indeed, you can't make it up - but you can describe the scene with style. As for colours, I know what you mean - but I suspect that every colour has its insipid shade.

  6. Nail scraping blue? Cyan? Ha, I'm lucky if I can find 2 lipstics in my handbag at any one time and whichever it is, probably won't match what I'm wearing. I'd love to see the installation? Any photos.

  7. Perhaps shedding a verbal tsk at the memory each sipstick color brings. Nice. My Theme Thursday is HERE .

  8. Tom, -That sounds REALLY interesting. I'm going to look up what's happening.

Baino, -The installation was an elaborate knock-down theater. First set up in Hong Kong years ago...

MM, -That was my impression, too!

  9. I can't help but wonder where the vignette with Lipstick Lady in the business suit took place. I'm picturing this at a business meeting, sitting with others around a conference table. Too bizarre!

  10. How can someone not like the color blue?? LOL

  11. Yes, I'm probably like you. I said, in my first line, "blue is not a favorite color of mine..." but it really is the lighter, pastel blues like the ones you describe. I certainly like slate and midnight or Prussian. As an artist, don't you have to acknowledge every color even if you use it very little?

  12. PattiKen, -It was on the subway. I do like the idea of seeing her in a board room, though... that would add a totally new dimension.

  13. Oh, you might need to be friends with all the colors... but me and fuchsia, well, we've got a score to settle.

And it probably has something to do with finding the right shade of lipstick.

  14. I guess it is a good thing that I rarely wear lipstick. I think I wore it when I was a teenager and a young adult but then somewhere I just figured it was not worth the trouble. My mom wears it everyday and so did my grandma. I just do not understand the need to wear it.

I like blue colors. The sky, the ocean, a swimning pool, are all pretty blue things. But I am sure that there are a few shades of it that I do not like.

    God bless.
